On March 10, Brittany Smith watched Richard on her doorbell camera as he slowly and carefully approached her home to deliver a Starbucks order through DoorDash.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was evident from the video this was a task for him,\u201d Smith wrote on a\u00a0GoFundMe page<\/u>.<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n
Smith shared the video on\u00a0TikTok,<\/u>\u00a0where it quickly went viral, then created a GoFundMe page once she was able to track down Richard.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe does DoorDash due to his wife being fired from her job (at no fault of her own) \u2026 by the time they pay their monthly expenses plus purchase their medication there is nothing left,\u201d she said on the GoFundMe page. Let\u2019s help Richard go back into retirement!!\u201d<\/p>\n
By the numbers:<\/p>\n
As of Friday morning, more than 18,000 people have answered Smith\u2019s call to help, with more than $550,000 raised. The campaign raised more than $300,000 in 24 hours. Donations ranged from $5 to $2,000.<\/p>\n

Richard and Brenda say they\u2019re still trying to process the overwhelming support.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just really difficult to believe that there\u2019s that many people that are that generous to try to help us\u2026 People that don\u2019t even know us,\u201d Brenda told WSMV. \u201cShe\u2019s remarkable. I just can\u2019t believe that someone would be that caring to set this up for us.\u201d<\/p>\n
