A mother in Idaho has been arrested for felony injury to a child after witnesses reported her shaking and jolting her 1-week-old daughter. Brenwyn Richey’s actions were described as aggressive, including yanking the girl by her leg and bouncing her aggressively on her knee.
Richey was also accused of violent behavior towards her daughter from the age of 1 week to 2 months. Officers responded to a domestic disturbance report at Richey’s apartment on December 28, 2025, where she admitted to using excessive force with the child.
Witnesses reported that Richey demonstrated rough handling of her daughter, admitting to being aggressive at times. The witnesses recounted incidents of Richey shaking the infant, with one witness describing a constant jolting motion lasting several minutes.
Child Protective Services Intervention
Police were called to Richey’s apartment a second time on December 29, 2025, leading to the emergency removal of her daughter by Child Protective Services. Medical evaluations revealed possible internal injuries in the baby.
Richey is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on April 9. The Blackfoot Police Department has not commented on the case. Another recent case involves a woman in North Carolina accused of causing her 1-year-old’s overdose by exposing her to illicit drugs, resulting in the baby’s death.
