Love Story Creator Hints at Secret Hollywood Couple Behind Season 2 Inspiration

The creator of Love Story, Connor Hines, has hinted that Hollywood legends Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton could be the focus of season two, following the series’ dramatization of John F. Kennedy Jr. and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy’s tragic romance.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Hines said, “Maybe Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton… they have the right intensity,” suggesting the iconic couple’s tumultuous relationship could inspire the next installment.

Taylor and Burton famously fell in love on the set of Cleopatra—while Elizabeth was married to Eddie Fisher and Richard to Sybil Williams—and went on to star in 11 films together. They married in 1964, divorced in 1974, remarried a year later, and finally separated in 1976. Even decades later, Elizabeth—who passed away in 2011—believed they might have reunited if not for Burton’s death in 1984, telling Barbara Walters in 1997, “We were so passionately in love… we loved each other almost too much.”

As season one of Love Story nears its finale, which depicts the 1999 plane crash that killed JFK Jr. and Carolyn, Constance Zimmer—who plays Carolyn’s mother Ann Freeman—warned the episode will be “very, very difficult” to watch. She added, “We all know what’s coming. It’s just how we’re telling it… to feel all the things we felt watching the show, and what actually happened in real time.”

The season finale airs March 26 on FX and Hulu.
