A former middle school teacher in New Jersey, Ashley Fisler, was arrested for allegedly raping a student. Gloucester County Prosecutor Andrew B. Johns confirmed Fisler faces charges of sexual assault, endangering a child, and official misconduct.
Fisler, 36, was arrested after the victim reported the incidents to police on January 23. The victim, now an adult, stated the assaults occurred while they were a student in Fisler’s class at Orchard Valley Middle School.
The investigation involved collaboration between the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims and High-Tech Crimes Units and the Washington Township Police Department.

In a separate incident, a fourth-grade teacher in New Jersey, Paul Yang, was arrested for sexually assaulting a young student in his classroom. He was arrested after an investigation by Passaic County officials.
The victim described multiple sexual encounters with Fisler in 2021, as detailed in court documents. Text messages between Fisler and the victim confirmed the nature of their relationship.
Fisler is no longer employed by Orchard Valley Middle School and left in April 2023. She is currently held in Salem County Jail awaiting her first court hearing scheduled for March 27.

Christie Oster, a Louisiana teacher named Teacher of the Year in 2025, was arrested for child sex crimes. She faces charges of indecent behavior with juveniles and carnal knowledge of a juvenile.
Parents in the area expressed dismay over Fisler’s arrest, highlighting concerns about the safety of vulnerable students and the betrayal of trust by adults in authority.
